Re: [RC] motion sickness in the dark - Maryanne Gabbani

We used those on our sailboat in the Mediterranean, where you get some pretty rough sea on occasion. My daughter was one of those kids who was seasick from day one (try birth!) and couldn't even go to sleep in a car as a baby. It didn't stop her from being seasick, though it might have made it a bit better. She handled it by not eating when we were sailing. But the rest of us got some help from this. I think that it depends on the person, but they are certainly worth trying since they don't wipe you out like the drugs. The other things that were very useful in really rough seas were the scolpamine (sp?) patches, but you have to put them on BEFORE things get rough. They also didn't make anyone sleepy.

I am a SCUBA instructor and have had to deal with motion
sickness alot (both my own and student's). I have found
something that has worked for me (100% of the time) and my
students nearly 100% of the time. They are called "Seabands"
when you buy them in a dive shop but they are also sold other
places under different names. They are small elastic bands with
a rounded button attached to each band. When placed properly on
both wrists the buttons apply pressure to pressure points that
for what ever reason prevents motion sickness. I was first told
about these bands by one of my students who was a nurse. She
said they were used by chemo patients to prevent the vomiting
associated with radiation treatment. While I was very skeptical
at first I am now a big believer in them and actually keep a
pair in my first aid kit. Might be worth a try...
