[RC] Shoeing - Ridecamp GuestPlease Reply to: Skyla temposmom@xxxxxxxxx or ridecamp@xxxxxxxxxxxxx ========================================== As everyone will most likely repeat, it depends on your horse. We had a horse that at 8 weeks (yes 8) looked like he was just shoed. The hoof grew down, and not out, and so on a shoe with alot of support you wouldn't know he was "overgrown". He still needed to be reshoed at about 6 week intervals, to keep the length down. The horse I have now, Tempo, he has gone completely through back shoes in as little as 3 weeks. :o( I normally try for about 5 weeks between shoeings, which is really pushing it. Found that using clips on the back shoes, they last longer. I have had him shoed more often then not, a day or two before our rides. That includes the rides which are horribly rocky, and we don't use pads, works for "this" horse. Also for "us", not using pads, helps keep me more aware, not only do rocks bruise, they also twist legs, so I find it to be helpful for my awareness, just a "me" thing. You will find with time, and expermentation, what works for your horse. Then, about the time you have it figured out, everything will change! Part of the fun of this sport, it never is stagnant. :o) Skyla and Tempo (who DO want to do another 100!) =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
