I was from the old school, use metal shoes and that rubber,
plastic, pads, etc were frowned upon. If the horse couldn't get
down the trail in regular good ole metal shoes, then that horse
wasn't made for trail and or endurance riding.

My farrier has experimented with both GC and equithotics. He does a large number of endurance horses. His conclusion on both is the same. They will probably work very well in semi-arid climates or even in temperate climates when it is dry but they just don't seem to work well in FL where our problem is too much moisture in the hoof. He came from CO so has a very good ideal as to what will work where and why. For the most part our horse's feet are a little on the soft side and the equithotics and GC just don't give enought support and the feet will splay, nail holes crack, etc.

I tried equithotics and loved them till we took them off after the second time and noticed the feet were starting to splay. He said he noticed the same thing with GC and he had several people trying GC.

So like anything - it depends on a lot of factors.
