Re: [RC] [RC] Animal Abuse? - Soli SorokinOne has to remember - almost every popular breed has its people that use the animals for the profit and fashion value, without regard for the animal's comfort. The TB industry gets slammed for running horses into the ground at an early age, arab halter show folks get slammed for making high-strung horses even crazier because it "looks good" in the show ring, quarter horse folks get it for blocking the tails, tying the head up in a stall all night so the horse's nose drags the ground the next morning in the show ring, not to mention the intentional breeding for small feet that are unable to support the mass of the horse. Anytime money is involved, people will behave less than honourably. It's a sad fact of human nature. And gaited breeds, particularly walkers, are becoming more and more popular for the casual rider. This creates additional revenue for these barns to sell their culls as trail horses for a good price, particularly out of state, or through a middle-man. Horses that sell for 1000-2500 here are selling for 4000-7000 in many other states. I know several "horse dealers" that make rounds to the big barns and buy the culls, and resell using agdirect.com for good profits. The gene pool is so small for the walkers, it is virtually impossible to get a nicely conformed horse without directly or indirectly supporting the big lick industry. I've spent a huge amount of time in the last year looking at walking horses here in Tennessee, and now own 2, with one on the way. I still have an arab, but the walking horses simply make perfect "guest horses" for those that are not able or don't know how to post. ~S On 5/25/05, apleg8'n <rackinfool@xxxxxxxxxxx> wrote: Oh Karen there are so many groups out there trying and have been trying you can't believe. It all goes for naught. You can go to websites for the Sorenomore and many others and witness the gawd-awful cruelty...if you can stand to even look. Everyone knows about this in the Walking or Gaited horse world. <snip> Of course I am talking about the Freak Show with the Padded Tennessee Walking Horses.
