RE: [RC] [RC] OT: How much do ponies go for? - Nancy SturmPonies gain value based on their size, their level of training, their show experience and how "fancy" they are. You might check out www.paladinponies.com for the look and cost of show ponies. There's a 12.2 Welsh pony mare that I bought for $500 a few years ago. We put a lot of training in her, took her to some shows and traded her for a nice Paint gelding for my grandson to show (plus some a percent of proceeds from her future sale). She is now in Florida with a sale price of $25,000 - same pony, lots of training later. I have a nice 4 year old gelding for sale for $2500. I bought a gorgeous Welsh cob for $4500 as a weanling and sold her for $3000 as a 3 year old because I got interested in endurance. It really depends on the market at the time you want to sell and how much you've done with the pony. Ponies sell for anywhere from $400 to $40,000. Good luck selling yours. Depends on where you are and the market. In the Atlanta area I have seen sponies go for around 1,000-20,000$. 1,000 means they are reasonably rideable, maybe with some problems. Age, Soundness. etc. The cuter , more colorful, nicely conformed ones go for more. If they win ribbions or jump they really go for more. Watched a backyard pony, start in local small county shows , go to 4h, became a lesson pony, went to bigger shows, won ,etc. That pony was origianlly bought for about 1100, then sold for 2500, then sold for 5,000.... worth about 10,000 now--It jumps and does it well. A really nice connnemara or welsh would go for 15,000-30,000$. If they win, are cute and safe, they are worth more than horses. People often travel many states away to get a special pony. From: Allegra C <useyourthorns@xxxxxxxxx> To: ridecamp@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [RC] OT: How much do ponies go for? Date: Wed, 18 May 2005 16:06:38 -0700 (PDT) I'm forced to sell my 5 yo pony this year. He has spent his entire life with me, but we simply do not have enough pasture, plus if I move out I can't take 2 horses with me. (I just turned 18.) How much are ponies going for? He is green broke. (I've been hopping up and down off of him for 3 years now, but I'm a little too big to take him on long rides.) 11 hands, maybe more he has grown several inches since the last time he was measured. I have ridden him at rides and events, but never on any rides or in any big events. lol. He is as close to what I'd dare every call an animal bomb proof. You can crawl all over him and he never blinks. He is also very eager to please. His mum was a GREAT trail pony. Is there any market for ponies for long distance? His only flaws are he thinks every thing is a cue, so he is always trying to figure out what you mean, and if a dog attacks him it will get hurt. (My mum's pony taught him that...) He is very eager to please, and is always the first to the gate to see you. He needs a little kid who is stuborn, he is 1/2 haflinger 1/2 trotting pony, and very loving. Ok, I'm going on a bit... So what would a pony like him be worth? Allegra * Every disaster is just a new opportunity that got tired of waiting for you to notice it. --------------------------------- Yahoo!
