Re: [RC] did AHA give in or did they have no choice (History of theAkhal Tekes) - Katrina O'NealWell, actually I don't think it was so much the American politics as the Russian politics. Even though Turkmenistan is no longer part of the Soviet Union, Russia still holds the stud book for the Akhal Tekes. There is actually only one person in charge as director ~ it is a government, salaried position. This ONE person does all the grading of stock, judges the major shows and has the power to toss horses out. Americans don't know how lucky they have it.The American registry was (and still is) quite small, so I think their goal was to seek creditbility by following the Russian example of what was pure and what wasn't. Still, the "proof" in the case of a number of the Russian horses was pretty slim. And with less than 3000 purebred Tekes world-wide, it's not like they have the genetic resources to be so casual about the loss of some good blood.
