Re: [RC] prineville-injured riders and horses, loose girth sub thread - Sisu West Ranch"...He's 23 and the skin under ..."I think that happens to allmost all horses as they age. The skin looses some of its elasticity. I know that it is happening to me, but that is not endurance related. This spring Ranger got a pair of nasty girth sores. I think it was partly due to his long hair at the time. He always has been a hairy beast. My successful solution was to move his girth back a couple of inches. I sewed two billets onto the OF cutback one girth buckle spacing back from the original rear one. When I ride him, the girth is buckled onto the old rear one, and the new one. With the crupper, and breast collar adjusted to allow the saddle and girth to sit a bit further back, healing took place. I think I may continue to ride him with this rig. When I ride Stevie, the girth goes back to the original position.
