RE: [RC] [So_Cal_Endurance] A big thank you to Kim and Richard Fuess - terry banister

Yes, thank you Kim and Richard - You would make great ride managers! It was another beautiful day in "endurance" paradise.

Subject: [So_Cal_Endurance] A big thank you to Kim and Richard Fuess

Yesterday, Kim and Richard hosted a 30 mile training ride for the upcoming
Californios 65/100 ride. The ride was planned exceptionally well, Kim was
trying to get us through the "dead zone" and to show the way to the 65 mile
VC for the 100 and the finish for the 65. This occurs after going through
the portion of the trail that was/will be in the midday sun and popping up
on a very long fire road. On that fire road, riders and horses alike, fall
asleep. Kim promised our horses would be thankful at the ride because they
will know where they are going, we think she is probably right as both our
horses and ourselves "fell asleep" during that stretch. Kim had three
water/feed stops, more than plentiful for the distance we were going. On
the third stop we were surprised to find human snacks and drinks "on ice".

This portion of the PCT that will be in the heat of the day is moderately
technical and is in addition to what we saw at the recent Californios Lite.
Willy did have a near miss, where he stepped on the steep embankment and
slid, hitting one of the undermined boards (the boards you will see
frequently that are holding the narrow trail up with many being somewhat
undermined with the recent weather we have had here in SoCal). We had
visions of "Willy the Flying Horse, Part II" for a seemingly long moment.
But, the trail is in remarkable condition, all considered, just try not to
step close to the boards.

After the ride we had a wonderful potluck with some really good company. It
was a very good day. Thank you Kim, and thank you Richard, for being such
great hosts and allowing all the trailers to clog your entire ranch passage
way.

Don and Pam
