Re: [RC] Dubai and no Val? - heidiThere is a big difference - the professional athlete gets a very nice salary plus maybe incentives with the contract. If the USEF is willing to fork out maybe a million buck with the contract - I'm sure there would be a lot of people interested in FEI in this country. Sorry, but I don't believe a commitment really has anything to do with dollar value--it has to do with the character to follow through. As Angie said, this is not a comment on what has gone on in the past, or on Val--but it is a statement about where we should go in the future. If I tell the little old lady next door that I will come chop her wood next week for nothing, that is still a commitment, even though it doesn't have a million dollar price tag. What Angie and I are both saying (at least I think Angie is saying the same thing I'm saying) is that if someone nominates and gets to the point of being on the short list, that is a commitment. Stuff happens--horses get injured, other sorts of athletes get injured, etc. But the commitment says that you will make your best effort to get the job done, no matter what other tempting offers come down the pike. It's a sad world where the commitment level depends on how many dollars one is paid...
