[RC] Dubai /Angie's Question - rides2far

France is a very socialist oriented country--would this go over in
our very
"capitalist" USA?

I certainly wasn't suggesting we wanted any government agency to *own*
horses! (Unless the cavalry wants to start competing) Personally, I think
our individualistic approach is the best thing about our country. I find
it amusing to imagine someone who has a place of authority over the
*team* coaching the Vals and the Bevs on how to pace. Gimme a break! Look
at the list of who is on the team. They know their horses and the have
their radar tuned in to their horse's signals on what's too much or when
they can ask for more. The thought of somebody who attends a lot of
meetings dropping by to tell these people how to pace in tomorrow's
workout is scarey.

But it may work. It's probably how the French do it so we're trying it
since management is always focused on the team. In the past I thought we
should just have 4 individuals shooting for the individual gold since
that's what I thought really mattered, but with the 17% completion rate
type of rides where they seem to just go unbelievable speeds and have a
few who happen to make it through I'm starting to approve of the idea of
giving the most credit to the country who gets several horses through the
fastest. It rewards survival instincts instead of risk takers.
