Re: [RC] Time off before 100's - rides2farPersonally, I'd rather err on the side of extra time off after a ride > because I do think that helps heal everything up and thereby increases their > longevity. I think when you do a 100 miler there's *always* damage to be repaired...I mean, the whole purpose of a tough training ride is to damage some muscles so they'll rebuild stronger, right? 100 miles at speed is a heck of a training ride. I'll ride a horse a week or 10 days after a 100 but I think it's wise to wait a month before competing again. As to riding before...I gear down about 2 weeks before the ride simply because they say it takes 2 weeks for "training to take place" as in: damage inflicted, damage repaired and reinforced stronger. I don't want to inflict any damage that doesn't have time to be 100% repaired so I'll train up to 2 weeks before, then I'll ride and keep him loose but no high intensity *challenging* the system rides. I try to ride him the day before we leave. I think some riding reduces the risk of a tie up. I do believe though that I remember Becky Hart saying that a 50 a week or 2 prior was how she put the finishing touches on Rio for a 100...Merryben?
