Re: [RC] Time off before 100's - Truman PrevattOn the mare I always liked to do a couple fast 10 mile rides leading up to a 100 to get her peaked. The one time I did lay her up for three weeks was when I couldn't help it. I had to be out of country on business. Get back load up and go to the ride. She was too fresh - I almost died the first 30 miles. As far as lay off afterwards - if everything came out okay and there was no issues that arose - I would go on an easy ride ride the weekend after. This would be a 15 to 20 mile ride at a slower more leisurely pace. If they sit around too long they develop cobwebs. If there are issues that arise from a ride - then they should be rested accordingly. Truman Joe Long wrote: I do think 2-3 weeks off would take the edge off and be counterproductive for most horses. You want to continue enough exercise to keep at peak fitness. -- “Many people consider the things government does for them to be social progress but they regard the things government does for others as socialism.” Earl Warren =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
