Re: [RC] FEI/AERC Sanctioned Rides - Truman PrevattI'd say it is more than a "management" issue but an issue of procedures. The procedure of not allowing one to go back their trailer prior to going to the P&R box that Cindy referred to is a procedure. Not being able to feed your horse in line is a procedure. These have nothing to do with a Pulse box. We've had those in the SE before I started riding and there is nothing about "not going back to your trailer or bringing in hay" implicit in a Pulse box. In fact at some rides managers put hay at the back of the box so you can grab a hand full to feed your horse in case there is a line. Some don't like the segeration of the ridecamp. That is a procedure that flows directly from the FEI rules. The rub comes in since if they are procedures they must be followed in which case they take on the same status of a rule since you can be DQed if not followed. If the procedures flow from the FEI rules then they are in fact rules that govern an FEI ride and should not be implemented toward the AERC riders. If they don't flow from an FEI rule then why the hell are they in place? They seem to aggrivate some segment of the membership? Back when I was running for board a couple of years ago, I got several Emails in the two hand full a time or two over number, from people (not any of the people that have come forward in this discussion) complaining about the new procedures that had been put in place at a co-sanctioned ride and how they sure didn't like it. BTW most all the Emails were from riders in the western part of the US. So first it is an issue and saying it isn't won't solve much. The ultimate solution - if co-sanctioning is to work - maybe to segerate the ride completely - FEI go one direction to a crew area, the AERC riders a different direction. They could share a common vet area and vets, but they would be governed by different procedures - the FEI the procedures that flow from the union of the AERC and FEI rules and the AERC riders those that flow from the AERC rules. The FEI officials could watch over the FEI riders to their hearts content with the direction from the ride manager that they have no authority or status over any other rider. They could also share the same timers since timing is independent of a "F" on your horse's butt or not. The other option would be that every co-sanctioned ride would be required to have an AERC steward whose job would be to insure that no additional procedures were implemented on the AERC portion of the ride. I think it can work, but clearly there some riders - long time high mileage riders - that have issues with it so it doesn't seem to be working all that well.
