RE: [RC] dressage saddles as endurance - Libby & Quentin Llop DVM

Diana:

The Albion is a well made saddle, which does a good job of spreading weight - both horse & rider friendly. If you ride in a balanced dressage type seat, a Dressage saddle can be very suitable for endurance.  To encourage the filling in of the atrophy, it is important that the material behind the shoulderblade, in the hollow be SOFT!   We like the air panels and the Supracor.  There is no reason your TB cannot do endurance; try it.

Subject: [RC] dressage saddles as endurance

I am looking for opinions on dressage saddles used in endurance.  I have an Albion SLK coming for trial and am now getting cold feet.  Anyone can email me direct at jojosylvester@yahoo. with your input.  Here's the story:

Thoroughbred with nerve injury that caused shoulders to be uneven, old non endurance saddle pinching. Horse is sound with minor atrophy.   Horse and rider always been Hunter/jumper, eventers and mom always dreamed of a well fitting dressage saddle. - In the one season I have ridden LD  I have seen many dressage saddles.  I am second guessing the lack of skirting to dissipate my weight and what I call the "twist" which puts me "deep" into the saddle on his back.  This saddle is coming early next week and I have one day to use it and decide.  I am working  with a professional saddle fitter so the fit should not be the problem. She has had what she calls endurance/trail riders who use this saddle all the time.  The one thing I have learned in the year I have been with this sport is there is a BIG difference in true endurance and "endrance/trail" riders.  And I have only done 25's so far.  This is not a 100 mile horse.

I have scheduled a lesson and an afternoon rental of an indoor so I and my horse can spend hours in this saddle. But it will not be the same as riding terrain.  Any and all opinions or histories would be appreciated
