RE: [RC] 100 mile rides - heidiYou're not the only one who feels that way, and I won't do ANY ride that is FEI and AERC sanctioned. The spring Biltmore is the closest ride to me...and I don't attend for the very same reason. I will not attend a ride where they confine me to a tiny space to crew, my crew can't meet me on the trail, I can't feed my horse in the vet line, and non-FEI riders are treated as "second class citizens". I miss that ride...but I will NEVER attend again as long as it is FEI sanctioned. Once was enough. I'm confused here. Many AERC rides have had to disallow crews on the trail because crewing was so badly abused by certain individuals. This isn't just an FEI thing. And I've certainly seen riders feed horses in vet lines at FEI rides. I've only attended a couple of dual-sanctioned rides, but if not getting pulled over to weigh at a vet check makes you feel like a second-class citizen, I'm sure they'd be happy to weigh you, too. I just haven't seen the problem at the ones I've attended. Certainly any time there are two groups doing something together, there are bugs that have to be ironed out. But I think managers have learned a great deal from some of the early attempts, and I think many of the problems are ceasing to be problems. I certainly wouldn't pick up my toys and go home, as long as the parties involved are working as hard as they are to eliminate the frictions that were found in the first few dual events.
