RE: [RC] 100 mile horses pre 1996 - bobmorris

Mike:

I would be willing to co-ordinate and over see the project,
but would need a group of reliable assistants. Not just one
time, hit or miss, one ride posters.

What would you propose using for entry software? Using Excel
or Access we could set up a standard form for entry and go
from there.

Anyway, I will help out where I can.

Subject: [RC] 100 mile horses pre 1996

I've gotten enough email in the past so I know people are
interested in
seeing the horses prior to 1996.

I've always avoided doing this because of the errors we know
are in the
archive db. There's all sorts of "junk" in fields so that
we've put in
"hacks" so it doesn't appear in what you see online. It's a
completely
separate db from the office.

But it's there and trying to run queries on that is a
nightmare plus
undoubtly we'd miss things.

I already spend time every week explaining why someone's
pre-1996 online
record isn't exactly the same as their AERC record.

Here's a suggestion for the group.

Russ and I have made the 100s a separate category now in the
horse/rider
statistics. While it's not completely accurate - it gives a
pretty good
picture. It goes back to 1985.

If a knowledgeable person(s) who knows the horses/riders of
the period
was to use the online horse/rider history as a starting
point - and old
Endurance News issues as a check - and was willing to
compile the stats
on the high number 100 mile horses - I will combine it with
the post 95
ones and put up a recognition page on the AERC site.

This is all manual work - you have to know who to look up.
You need
access to old EN or someone who has them.

Any volunteers? If I get more than one volunteer - one of
them needs to
coordinate the rest of the group's work.

Mike
