Re: [RC] back to HRM discussion - heidiIn the endurance book I have it says, ". after a 10 minute rest.as a rule of thumb, if the heart rate reliabley returns to 60bpm or less it is safe to ask for slightly more intensity" If using the above formula along with the "...15 miles under 2 hours comfortably ready for a 50.." suggestion is that a good basic ligament/tendon safe conditioning way to go for a first season on a 4 year old? A 4-year-old probably isn't ready for this intensity, simply given his age and the fact that hopefully, he has not been under saddle all that long. Give him a year of long slow distance and then try to apply these formulas next year. Although we use the second formula for older horses that haven't been in endurance conditioning for all that long, most have either been ridden at something, and therefore have the beginnings of a base, or have run out and have a degree of conditioning from that. Even our 4-year-olds that have run out we still consider to be "immature" and don't push them that hard.
