RE: [RC] School the Mind; Condition the Legs (was: HRM's and Increasing Intensity) - Mike SofenReally, you need to entertain yourself with a HRM for a long time before the data coming out of it becomes sufficiently meaningful to start making decisions based on it. Especially since the numbers vary from horse to horse...and because it is only one of a million things that you need to pay attention to. Kat<< These two points are why I said, for this type of training, to use it every time. I personally store the data points in my brain (after all, I AM a data specialist :-)), and after many training rides, I've got a 3 dimensional map of level of effort, HR, and specific trail. It does allow me to compare "today's" workout against prior workouts, both by HR and by heart "feel", respiration, and body language. I need LOTS of rides because, as you say and I agree, horses vary a lot and I need a complete map (set of data) for the horse I'm riding.
