Re: [RC] lightening strike - Chris PausOh gosh, Linda. I'm so sorry Prayers going up for Wally. If it gives you any hope, my mare
Shak was hit by lightning while in our trailer. We were traveling down I*-35 south of Des Moines. She had just been bred. The lightning went through her and out her anus, prolapsing her rectum. This is a life threatening situation for a horse, but fairly common in cows. She ended up in intensive care for a week, on antibiotics and a mineral oil soft diet for 6 weeks. We couldn't pregnancy check her until her rectal tissue had all healed. It was about 5 months. The vets had no idea if she was pg or if all the meds she was on would interefere with gestation.l
Long story short, the foal arrived right on time, perfectly healthy in every way. We named him "Baraq" which is Arabic for lightning. He now lives in Texas with Val Jaffe.
So there is hope! I'll be thinking of dear Wally and hope he has a successful recovery like Shak did.
