Re: [RC] pipe corrals - Dolly Miller

I don't consider the " V no climb" very safe to use in a small area like a stall. I had wood stalls with 30 ft runs with the V wire since it was horse safe. Several years ago a mare with a 4 day old foal rolled in her run during the night and got both of her hind shoes caught in the wire. The wire went under the back of the shoes all the way to the nail. She died with her hind legs stuck up in the air and I had a baby to hand raise.

In a stall I would use wood half way up and then wire above that for ventilation. No legs thru the pipe. When they kick they hit wood and when they roll, nothing to get caught on.

Subject: [RC] Pipe Corrals

My neighbor had a horse get a leg stuck between the rails that took =
hours to get out, fortunately no permanent damage. Another neighbor's =
horse had broken pasterns due to pipe corral. One night my daughter's =
mare apparently rolled too close to the pipe paddock (24' X 18') and =
injured her back leg, probably had the leg stuck under the bottom rail, =
as the leg was scraped up higher than the hock. Personally, I wouldn't =
want to confine horses in small pipe enclosures UNLESS the pipe is =
covered with something. I see lots of pipe paddocks with "no-climb" =
horse fencing attached to the pipe panels. Much safer that way.
