How short can I make the trailer tie? Will try most anything.
I am planning short practice rides in the trailer, with somone in the trailer
with him for this week. So keep the strategies coming. I am glad
to hear that my horse isn't the only goober out there. Thanks, Jen
*As far as how short to have the trailer
tie....here are a couple of thoughts......The purpose of the trailer tie is
pretty much to prevent the horse from panicking and trying to turn his body
around to get out (getting stuck-you can imagine the mess that would make),
you want it short enough the horse can't do that...but then...
If the trailer tie is short enough to keep the
horse from putting his weight on the butt chain, it will also be short enough
that if he does panic and FALL, then there is a real possibility he can break
his neck if he does.....
do NOT, EVER, put a person in a two horse trailer
with a bad hauler to see what is going on.....maybe I can dig up the old post
about somebody who did this and got trampled to death when the horse started
moving all around;then panicked even more when the person went down and they
were stomping on the person....
The horse is already having problems riding in a
straight load. Some figure it out and haul miles (eveyone used to have
these), but some don;t!. If you only have one horse to haul in a two horse
straight load...take out the darn partition or move the back end over all the
way, giving the horse a slant.
Or seriously, sell the trailer before the horse
destroys the inside and start shopping for an older, but well cared for
slant-load trailer....in my area you can run across a good used Morgan or
Logan or Apache for $2500.
