RE: [RC] re: revolution - Steph Teeter

Jim - at least get your facts straight.

AERC's minimum age for endurance (including 100's) is 5.
FEI 's minimum age for 100's is 7.

Both organizations have a No Drug rule. and both tolerate exceptions: FEI allows gastroguard, AERC allows Regumate. (Neither are performance enhancing or pain masking drugs.)

Both organizations have had cases of positive drug tests, both organizations have had horses die during competition (FEI has a more rigorous investigative procedure than AERC).

However, the fact that they “permit” the riding of horses that I consider to be too young is damning enough.  That issue is why AERC has an age limit for competing in LD and Endurance…to protect young horses.  Obviously FEI  could care less about the welfare of the horse.  It’s all about money and prestige.  The horse is simply another possession to be used up and thrown away.

I was looking forward to attending your ride.  However, because it is FEI sanctioned and I strongly oppose the overriding of young horses and blatant drug abuse in this organization, I am instead sending a contribution of $$$ (whatever the ride fee is) to “xxxxx” (your favorite horse charity)

That's a pretty darn good idea, Jim. However, the overriding of young horses is the riders choice. They don't HAVE to ride younger horses, they CHOOSE to ride them. The blatant drug abuse is however,  so obvious. I have been told by a "top" rider that certain drugs should be allowed because otherwise, the horse couldn't perform. Pretty much any one who thinks differently, doesn't have a clue. Including me.
