Re: [RC] horse climbing sides of trailer HELP!!!! - Chris Paus

How is he about loading in the trailer and unloading?

How would he be riding in it without the partition. I had a claustrophobic horse who did fine if I took out the partition.

Have you checked your driving? Have you ridden in the trailer with someone else driving so you can see what it feels like around turns? That's always an eye opener.

Practice driving without the horse but with a glass of water in the manger or somewhere. See if you can drive without spilling the water. The smoother you can make the ride, the easier it will be on the horse.

I have an older two horse Kingston trailer, straight load with a full partition.  My horse is putting his shoulder into the middle partition and climbing the side of the trailer with 3 or more hooves.  He has ridden in a trailer with a half partition in which he did the same.  I worried that he would fall under the partition.  I don't have the money to purchase and new trailer and this one is in great working condition.   He seems to be too far back in the trailer and not using the chestbar for support.  Instead he is sitting on the butt chain.  I have tried shortening the tie but I wonder how short I can go safely.  He doesn't eat while riding in the trailer so reaching the hay is not a concern.  The behavior is the worst around corners but occasionally happens when coming to a stop. Any, and I mean any suggestions.  I am really worried he is going to hurt himself.  Thanks, Jen
