Re: [RC] Absorbine body wash - Barbara McCraryWe are fortunate enough to have hot and cold water at the outside of our deck, near the end of the garage. At this point, we have 1) a homemade outdoor shower, 2) water to wash any kind of vehicle or large containers, and 3) a hose with adjustable nozzle for washing the horses after a ride. We always use tepid water.....not cold enough to shock a hot horse. The tepid water does a great job of cooling the horses and cleaning off the sweat and mud. The horses soon learn to love it. AND, no bathtub ring!Barbara ----- Original Message ----- From: "Bruce Weary DC" <bweary@xxxxxxxxxxxx> To: <ridecamp@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Wednesday, May 04, 2005 9:31 AM Subject: Re: [RC] Absorbine body wash Regarding a full body wash after a ride, remember that if the solution is too cold either because of actual temperature, or the effects of evaporative cooling, the majority of the surface blood vessels will constrict, actually trapping core heat , and the cooling process may actually be hindered rather than helped. In addition, the sympathetic nervous system my become stimulated, causing an increase in heart rate and further vasoconstriction. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
