Re: [RC] [RC] Injecting hocks for mystery front end lameness!!!!! What? HELP!!!!!! - - Maryanne GabbaniI have to chime in with a 'me too' here. I have a lovely 7 yr old gelding who started being not quite right a few months ago. A hind leg would sort of collapse under him at random, but usually when he was tired, and he wasn't interested in going out to play, which is a real bell-ringer because my horses love going out for rides. I had to wait until a few weeks ago to have a really good vet see him, because we don't have any really good vets here. Meanwhile, I had people telling me that it was the food, the wrong exercise, you name it.When Jack saw him, Nazeer was off on every single leg in alternation as he was longed and trotted. Every single bloody leg, depending on direction, curve, whatever. We x-rayed the hocks and the culprit, while still minor, was there and he will be infiltrated, given a week's rest and is on a strict no-deep-sand regimen for a few months. Since 80% of the injuries in my horses (and the people around me who ONLY ride in deep sand) seems to be traceable to desert work where deep sand is the norm, I'm spending more and more time in the countryside where the footing is nice packed dirt. AND it's shady in the summer! Some people might have thought my vet was wasting my money doing the xrays on the hocks, when the horse had passed the flexion test and was showing up off on the left front. Maybe your friends vet has a lot of experience working with sport horses and knows what he/she is doing in this case. Or not, but I thought I'd just throw this out there in case anybody else happens to start experiencing some of these things with their horse. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
