One important piece of advice:

DON'T!

1/2 ton pick ups are not suited for hauling.  If you MUST haul, then a 
light weight two-horse (2-axle) is advised.

1/2 ton trucks do not have good enough braking power, even with trailer 
brakes.

I used to use a 1/2 ton until I had a couple of close calls that were 
not my fault, although they would have been legally, since 1/2 tons 
don't have effective braking for hauling.
