Re: [RC] "Trainer" fatality - Jackie Causgrove

No, this is the intetesting part, as far as I am concerned.  My previous thoughts concerning mustangs etc that the more experienced the better.  What totally amazed me was not one or two success stories but the overall success rates; even for newbies.  Expereinced mustang owner will tell you that one of the keys to a mustang is take what you know and check it at the door.  The mustang will tell you.

It's not that I do not agree with you.  It is that I have been in contact with many, many people who were new to horses or had been out of them for all LONG time.  While this is not hard science, it is a pattern.  Something to be looked at and why would this work for new mustang owners and a domesticated horse.

I agree that mustangs get a bad rap because any horse can be a lethal weapon at any time. But I do not agree that newbies and green mustangs are a good mix. Sure, there are a few stories here and there of green plus green working out. But for every positive story you hear, there are a hundred that don't work out.

It doesn't matter if the green horse is a mustang, a QH or an Arab, it's not a good idea for novice people to get an untrained horse.

I've had too many people come through my gate who want riding lessons and help with horses who have bought themselves a green 2Yo horse and find out they can't do anything with it.

I wonder how many of those horses end up at the auction labeled as bad, when really all they needed was a knowledgable human.

off my soapbox now.
