Re: [RC] Strausser vs. Natural - heidiPlease Reply to: Sheila Larsen Sheila_Larsen@xxxxxxx or ridecamp@xxxxxxxxxxxxx ========================================== When I was having my horse trimmed in a "natural balance" it was done by a guy trained by Jamie Jackson. He told me that problem with the Strausser trim was that it tried to shoe horn all horses into specific angles and shape. That a natural trim followed more closely to the horses natural way of going but keeping the foot balanced. Having done quite a bit of research and read the Strausser books, I personally would have to agree. I think this is it in a nutshell. A horse needs to be trimmed "naturally" (be it by someone who bills themselves as a "natural" trimmer or someone who just has the common sense to evaluate the horse and trim him to fit himself) and no two horses are exactly alike. Horses trimmed to fit their conformation tend to stay sound--those who are not do not tend to stay sound. Additionally, I think that the Strasser model fits darn few horses. If anything, I would say that the Strasser model is primarily useful in a few pathological situations--primarily in combination with resection of the hoof wall in extreme cases of founder.
