I have been feeding Nutrena Compete for the last 3
years. Last year we moved into 50's and he has been fine on it. He
was always a very hard keeper and I used to have to feed him rice bran and beet
pulp along with alfalfa meal. When I contemplated moving into 50 mile
rides in 2003, I switched over the Nutrena Compete and I add beet
pulp. I now have no problems with his weight and I can also use it
for my mare who is allergic to alfalfa. It is difficult to find a
feed that doesn't have alfalfa as part of it. I do wish the Compete was
lower in protein but I have been very happy with it. During the ride
season I supplement it with 1 cup of vegetable oil daily.
