Re: [RC] [RC] to shoe, redeux... - Joe LongOn Sun, 17 Apr 2005 23:53:09 -0700, "terry banister" <terrybanister@xxxxxxxxxxx> wrote: You are right Joe. It did come off sounding snide - and I do apologize, to you, and anyone else who took it that way. Well, when I read it today I cringed a bit at how abrasively I wrote it. I didn't intend to lash out at anyone, but at a tendency I've seen too often on this topic. Not all horses are the same, they are not all used for the same things, and not all programs work with all horses. Interestingly, my own horses are barefoot at the moment ... and have been for several months. I have always tried to give my horses some "time off" from shoes every year. But I am going to put iron shoes on Via soon as I'm beginning LSD with him, and Ground Control on Sanshra as we're about to start our ride season. BTW, I recently purchased a new horse property just outside of Castle Rock, Colorado. It is 23 acres, about half fairly level and in grass, but half going up a steep ridge with LOTS of sharp rock and gravel. I told my friends that most people want level and rock-free pastures, but I loved this setup because the steep hills and rocks will help toughen my endurance horses (and their hooves). They go everywhere, and you should see them come down that steep ridge when I whistle for them! Oh, if anyone is interested there are photos at www.rnbw.com/ranch.html. If you look closely in the second photo (Front of House 2) you can see Via on the hill, just above the roofline. Kahlil is in the third photo (Barn), and Kat is in the first "Deer in our backyard" photo. -- Joe Long jlong@xxxxxxxx http://www.rnbw.com =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
