[RC] newbie- girth question - Jonni

I really do like leather girths and cinches. But, the cheap ones are often
not of the same quality as the better ones. Really check quality.
They are more breathable that neoprene, but you can still hose them off.
BUT, you really need to give them a good conditioning once and awhile, like
any leather article. I have had a horse in the past that got the allergic
reactions to neoprene, and the leather was the answer. Does not gather
burrs, debris and such if you have to ride off trail like some other girths
do. I also had one get pinched by mohair, as he had lots of wrinkles behind
the elbows. The current horse is doing well in neoprene. There is no one
perfect girth for all horses. Many of us have a selection of styles and
types when we have multiple horses.
