[RC] another cloning issue - Maureen A. Fager

Another issue to be addressed by breeding clones: will the registries accept cloned horses, and or their offspring in their studbooks? Will Cash's clone be accepted by the AHR, IAHA, WAHO, or the CAHR, or other regisistries? What if the World Arabian Horse Organization accepts clones but the AHR does not? (for instance)

Issues such as AI, embro transplants and other reproduction technoligies are not nessesarily accepted right away by the registries. And when they are, the different registries have different regulations. In, other words, the clone may be able to reproduce, but the offspring won't be able to be registered, or there could be specific limitations on how the offspring are registered.

Semen can be shipped worldwide, so the registration of cloned offspring may be an issue.

This issue may not be limited to just Arabian horses of course, but to other breeds of cloned horses, (and other species) as well.

Cheers,
Maureen
