I was surprised to see that the cloned horse would be used for breeding purposes. Not being very knowledgeable about cloning I have a couple questions. Have there been many instances of cloning animals that have a faster reproduction cycle and life cycle that have been used for breeding. I am thinking of rats or rabbits. Do cloned rats and rabbits produce identical offspring to non cloned rats and rabbits? I find it strange that a cloned horse would be used for breeding when a cloned horse has not even been around long enough to live an entire life cycle to find out if it is able to live a life identical to a non cloned horse. How do we know that this horse will be as viable and strong as the original. Do we know that this horse will produce offspring that is as strong and viable as a non cloned horse?
I personally would like to see this horse used for performance to see if the cloning is the answer to re producing elite animals. How do we even know that the original Cash, as a stallion. would be able to reproduce offspring with the traits that made him so great.
