I've heard of similar reactions via online veterinary discussion groups. Lots of gray hairs among the vets that had to deal with them. I haven't personally witnessed any such reactions, because we don't use the Merial product in our practice (and your experience illustrates why). The only adverse reaction we've had to the Fort Dodge product is very minor muscle soreness --- less so than is commonly experienced after vaccinating for flu/rhino or the Eastern/Western/tetanus combo. By the way, there was also a recent journal article that demonstrated no increase in broodmare abortions in relationship to vaccination with WNV vaccines, contrary to some of the wild rumours flailing hither and yon the past year or two. We pushed vaccinating the pregnant mares in our practice and haven't had any problems --- coincidentally, the only mare that aborted this year hadn't been vaccinated for anything. Her owner preferred the "natural" method of broodmare management. :-( JME. Hope you've recovered with a few stiff shots of single malt.
