Re: [RC] Arabian Stud Fees are just too high - heidiPlease Reply to: Amy Claiborne amyc@xxxxxxxxxxxx or ridecamp@xxxxxxxxxxxxx ========================================I've been reading most of the talk about supply and demand, etc. The AHA wants us to breed more arabs, but who can afford the stud fees? I haven't seen any arabs I'd want to breed my mare to for under $1,000. Ridiculous! I have a nice CMK mare that I would love to breed for a purebred foal, but just can't afford the fees. I have two foals out of her, one very nice filly by an unknown Weiscamp bred QH stallion for a $150 fee, and the other filly by a money-earning son of Doc O'Lena for a $500 fee. The nicest by far is by the $150 stallion. What gives with the stud fees? Gee, that's odd--I've found very few OVER $1000 that I'd care to breed to, as they are mostly the caricatures from the show ring, and you are paying for name and hype, not quality. There are a few nice stallions with higher stud fees, but the majority I've run across that I'd consider are between $500 and $1000. And there are lots of donated breedings to outfits like NASTR, CAT, etc. that can be gotten for well under $500 to some very nice horses. What is expensive about raising foals is not the stud fee--it is raising them to a useable age. Now THAT can run into some bucks!
