Re: [RC] fly masks - Karen SullivanMy opinion on putting on fly masks on skittish horses is to never approach with mask in front of face and try to put on...I have had very good luck with slipping fly mask over their neck, then sliding up from neck up over ears and face....none of mine have objected to that. usual disclaimers of making sure horses are somewhat gentled and sacked out, and used to sight and smell of fly mask. Maybe use it to rub;scratch the horse first... However, I've not seen anything on putting a fly mask for the first time on a horse. With the hot weather just around the corner, I anticipate a fly problem (altho we're trying the fly-larvae-eating wasps) and so we puchased two fly masks. I'd be most interested in techniques to get our two guys to accept having these things put on their faces. Any help would be appreciated. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
