Re: [RC] Rider weight - heidi

If you all are so worried about your horse's health, lose a few!

LOL! Fortunately for some of us tubby gals, that IS an option. (I've
knocked myself plumb out of the HW division this year--hallelujah! May
the trend continue!) That said, the horses have not been the weak member
of the team carrying my weight--I'VE been the weak member, precisely
because I was NOT fit. Unfortunately, for some of the big guys who are
already slim and fit, it ISN'T a healthy option. I was running the scales
at Steph's Owyhee 100 last fall, and when you get a guy like Barry Waite
who tacks in at around 220 and is already a fit, trim athlete, there isn't
much of anything left to lose. The flip side is that those sorts of FIT
HWs are pretty easy on the horse, precisely because they DO ride well, and
ARE fit.
