Re: [RC] helmet & visors - Chris Paus

Angie, I've used a Dakota helmet for years and found it pretty comfy. The visor is better than most Troxels.  chris

I'm getting ready to order a new helmet for the first time in several
years and hadn't realized my old favorite the Lexington is apparently a
thing of the past...along with that body style. I've got an old Troxel
and don't care for the short visor. The other day I was cantering up a
hill directly into the sun and caught a stick in the eye. If I'd had on
my Lexington I could have tipped my head forward so the visor could keep
the sun out of my eyes. I'd considered the Tipperary but its visor looks
purely ornamental...too high and short to be of any use. The only helmet
I found with a full visor is the Troxel Dakota which is on the high end
at $64.95. It claims it is perfect for riders who "want a more western
look". Don't know what's western about it but do see that the longer
visor mounted down where it helps makes the helmet appear to have a
higher profile.

So, any advice? Don't suggest those foam visors. They look pretty stupid
blowing up over the helmet in the wind. The Sportack helmet visor looks a
bit more promising...is it at all rigid? Any comments on it?

Finally, why did the Lexington type visor go away? Is there a danger in
landing on a visor that's long enough to be functional?

The bigger they are, the farther you fall.
