Hi Martha -- I'll get both questions answered in one post :).  If I remove 
the gaitor, it will only be to cut the heel strap down, or take it off, 
then I will put it back on.  Without the gaitor, I think I would just have 
a plain 'ol easyboot!

I did put the epics on one of my shod horses, and he seemed to do fine in 
them, but I haven't done a ride yet with them on a horse with shoes on.  I 
think they would work just as well, since it is essentially an easyboot 
with the gaitor (the Epic).  I think the Epics will be great to carry for 
the spare because you can use it over a shod hoof and if you do happen to 
lose a shoe, you can put it on and won't have to worry about losing it.
