Mares are somewhat less maintenance, but they do need their udders cleaned too! 
Don't neglect your
girls' "bits"! A lot of tail rubbing can be traced to a dirty udder. Whenever I 
reach under there
to clean, my mare just gets this really appreciative look on her face, like "I 
have been TRYING to
reach that!"
