A local horse breeder had been doing lots of experiments with different drainage systems and the one that worked the best was SAND. Yep, just sand. << We did that for our arena in CA. We compacted the natural dirt (clay), then a layer of compacted DG, and then 3" of sand. The arena was useable even during the rain. The day following rain it would be dry and gorgeous. For pasture/dry lots, the best I've heard to use is pea gravel. That's what we'll be doing in the muddy areas of our property now that we're in the Pac North Wet. :) And we'll put in a sand arena eventually, too. ~Nicole =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
