[RC] kineton nosebands - Ridecamp GuestPlease Reply to: Lynn White lynndeepoo@xxxxxxxxx or ridecamp@xxxxxxxxxxxxx ========================================== I am really trying to incorporate the "start slow" strategy, as I will be attempting a 100-miler this season. My mare came to me with a very hard mouth and an attitude to go along with it. I currently use a full cheek snaffle, which is pretty much useless at ride starts (anyone who saw me at the Teeter's 100-miler last fall can attest to this). My mare loves to be "first" and tends to burn herself out the first 50 miles. I have done lots of round pen/natural horsemanship training with her, and she minds me all the time EXCEPT for ride starts. I have even started out dead last in races thinking that she'd slow down when she caught up to the last horse...that doesn't work either. I have used a flash band, and it works really well for getting her on the bit, but I usually have to ride with it all the time during conditioning and races, and she can't eat with it because it keeps her mouth shut. I am really trying to NOT go to a more severe bit. Anyway, I saw an article in the Horse Journal about nosebands, and they showed a kineton and what they are typically used for...horses like mine! Has anyone ever used one of these nosebands? They are kind of pricey and I don't want to invest in one unless there is a good probablitity that they will be effective.
