[RC] moving up from CT to LD - Jonni - DreamWeaverHummm, I dunno Truman, I bet in the case of Dave Rabe, who only has 37 LD miles (total) listed in his over 31 THOUSAND miles of endurance, that is probably a pretty fair statement in the case of that high mileage rider. Talk to him, and he is one who likes to start them with a 50, and seems to prefer those multi-days. He took one of my horses on 3 50's within 3 weeks of the 5 week long XP2004 this last summer. Those were his first endurance rides. He had done one NATRC ride before that. Dave's first endurance ride was Tevis. The 37 LD miles he has was when they stopped the 50 mile Derby Ditch ride at the 37 mile point due to a blizzard. Does he only have 31,000 miles? I thought for sure it was 32,000 by now <G>. He was the highest mileage rider in 2004, and 2003, in the entire sport. His interview for the Decade Team list can be found here: http://aerc.org/long_table.asp The way that Limited Distance has evolved, I think like Dave, that the horses are better off starting out in the longer distances, as long as the rider knows what they are doing.
