Dear Kathy,

The first thing I would have checked on this mare is her
Thyroid.

We had a mare who became extremely aggressive over a short
period of time. (Same person owning her for years). She in fact wound up 
lugning over the top rail of her corral and biting 
someone in the face-she got that bad.

I had the owner get the vet out and check her thyroid and sure
enough it was too low.

They put on her on medication for a while and her temrpament
returned to "normal".
