Yeah, Karen, if you walk for ten minutes of every hour on 100...over the twenty-four hours you have to complete the ride, you've now reduced your available ride time by four hours to twenty...then, when you factor in vet checks and holds.......sheese, it really adds up, eh?
    Focused, forward movement, with the intention of doing the whole ride and getting done...that can be a hard thing.

Frank, it sounds like you are planning for Tevis? <g>  Haven't we all thought those same thoughts, everytime you waste 5 minutes on the trail, or 10 minutes, and if you do it every hour...how it really adds up? 

And yet, if you don't spend time walking....you will still reduce your chances of completing the ride! 

I believe it was Julie Suhr who taught me about walking for ten minutes of every hour.  Gosh, I hope I have it right <G>.

p.s.  one of the questions I wished I had asked on the questions to the Decade people is how much of the time do you canter.....of the ones I have asked that question to, trot most of the time.
