The mentor takes the newbie clinic out on the 25 miler, they ride together, they start the ride 10 minutes late to get behind everyone, we let all the riders know what is going on as far as the clinic goes, etc. Yes, it is a new idea; a new concept. Something different. Will it fly? Man, I hope so. Sure would change some folks concept of LD riding. We actually make it what it was intended for. A training, learning experience. Well Howard, there is nothing from stopping you from doing that yourself. I think it would be an excellent opportunity for you to teach what you know. If you can give the speech, then certainly you can show by example. Pick a few rides, put a flyer in the goodie bag from ride management stating your intentions and go for it! I really doubt anyone would object and you can do your part to teach people how to ride. (Lord, help us.;) If it catches on and other regions get mentors to do the same, you will have done your good deed for the sport. Will it fly? You'll never know until you try. Don't just say you love the sport and horses and all that. Show us. Your mentoring idea is a good one. Show us how it works! I know you can.
