[RC] Mentoring thoughts...... - Ridecamp Guest

I truly love Howard's mentoring suggestion. And if we're trying to protect the
lives of horses, I don't see mandatory as a problem.

A few thoughts.....

1. Ride Mentors, great idea. How about Training Mentors? Most of us have
done this informally with lots of folks, but perhaps we could think about a new
person being required to do some TRAINING rides with an experienced rider.
Easier to learn BEFORE the ride than during the ride. And much less pressure
than ride day.

2. A recognition system for Mentors, like regional/national awards. Perhaps
we could recognize Mentors as positively as we recognize other accomplishments.
Wouldn't it be cool to say you'd successfully "mentored" someone through their
first 25 or 50? What better accomplishment than educating a new rider and
thereby protecting the welfare of their horse. Heck, it sounds a lot like the
great folks out there known for sponsoring juniors. (they deserve awards,
too!!)

Just MHO

===========================================================We are talking about
all the tools we can use to keep our horses safe and
alive at the rides. Training/conditioning is one of the best tools
available. It makes us better horseman and women, it benefits our horses
and could quite possibly be the key to preventing most crashes.
