RE: [RC] Virus - David LeBlancSue Koost said: I get many viruses from RC. can the mail not be run thru virus checkers? I just had the trojan (again) Heidi said: I find it fascinating that I've been on the list for several years now, have very primitive virus protection, and have yet to get a virus--from RC or anywhere else. I'm just darn careful about what I open, and that seems to be the best protection. Most viruses these days depend on people opening attachments that they don't know what they are. Being careful with attachments is your best defense. Second most important thing to do is keep your security patches up to date. Go fetch the patch from http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com - Microsoft NEVER sends patches to people in e-mail. Go get them yourself. If you're using Outlook or Outlook Express, the most recent versions will block dangerous attachments. If Outlook blocked it, it is almost certainly a bad e-mail. Even if a friend sends you a program, DO NOT run it. All too often, it's "Wow - look at the dancing monkey", and then blam someone has installed something on your system you don't want. Also, e-mail isn't always from who it appears to be from. Long story, but it is really, really easy to send e-mail that appears to be from someone, but it is really some spam or a virus sending the mail. Ridecamp may not be sending you the viruses, though they could claim to be.
