Re: [RC] ATTN: Folks who don't use HRMs - Ed & Wendy Hauser"... don't need a torque wrench to get the nuts just tight enough and evenly tight ..." When I was 16 my grandfather (an old German toolmaker) was helping me do an engine rebuild on a Henry J (how many folk have even heard of that mark?) When it came time to torque the head bolts, I proudly trotted out my brand new torque wrench. He said "I'll tighten them almost tight enough, then you can finish the job.." They all were between 5 and 10 ft-lbs below the proper torque. The last couple of years before my retirement I found myself doing the same type of thing to young chemists and engineers. I believe Bill Cosby said "Old age and treachery beats youth and skill every time" To make this endurance related. I just got back from Ranger's first real conditioning ride of the spring. It is hard to believe that a 14 yr old can be such a dork in the spring. He has 1500 distance miles, and more road conditioning miles than Jack Keroac, but still had to shy or stop at every horse we passed. Most of the snow is gone here in the Bitterroot Valley floor and the temps are above freezing most days. For a transplant from WI this is like heaven.
