My "new" mare came to me with a registered name that just left me cold, and 
no solid stable name.  She's a red chestnut, and became "Kate" in the hopes 
that she would take on the qualities- feminine but strong, independent, 
athletic, 
smart, opinionated- that  I admired in Katherine Hepburn, who died just 
before this mare came into my life...
I'm happy to say we're getting there!        nikki
